The country-house Antico Borgo Carceri is located in Torre del Colle, a small village close to Bevagna, a town of roman origin and characterized by an evident medieval urban planning.
Bevagna has numerous places of historic and artistic interest, as – in its singleness – “Piazza Silvestri” (the main square) with “Palazzo dei Consoli” (the Consuls’ Palace) in which you may notice Gothic mullioned windows and a wide loggia hosting the famous “Teatro Torti” (the municipal Theatre).
Remarkable historic and religious importance have the three churches of Bevagna: “Chiesa di San Silvestro”, “Chiesa di San Michele” and “Chiesa di San Domenico”.
Among arts and crafts, that have been in the past a feature of its territory, Bevagna is famous for workmanship of hemp (“hempen cloths”). Bevagna has a high reputation for its excellent traditional Umbrian kitchen and food products like red wine Sagrantino, white wine Grechetto, olive-oil, truffles: all of them are in fact widely known.
The town of Bevagna is located in the splendid Umbrian Valley, among the quiet and suggestive views of Spoletan Valley (city of Spoleto), the wonderful Valnerina (crossed through by Nera river) and the astonishing tablelands of Castelluccio di Norcia, surrounded by an uncontaminated nature.
The Umbrian Valley is a land with millenary history, through which various and different civilizations have produced such a big cultural and human patrimony that makes this territory an “unicum”.
The Umbrian Valley and its Sibillini mountains, is also the land of Castles, historical Buildings, Monasteries, Cloisters and Churches: all this makes the site a Spiritual Center acknowledged all over the world.
Its economy is mainly based on the local handicraft. The Umbrian Valley is a territory where you find small concerns, mostly family firms, specialized in hand-production of wrought iron, textiles, ceramics, wood workmanship.
